Pomatomus Socks

Last week, I finished my Pomatomus socks by Cookie A. I had started on them at the end of January, but put them down sometime in February to try and motivate myself to finish some other projects that had been on the needles for a very long time.

The yarn is Yarn Love’s Juliet sock yarn in the Bayfield Apple colorway. The yarn really does resemble a delicious, crisp apple, and there’s a ton of yardage in each skein. I had originally planned to knit these toe up and just use all the yarn, but I did not remember that there are 495 yards in one skein of Juliet. I probably have enough yarn left over to make a pair of footies or something, even though I have long feet.

I am quite pleased with the way the yarn knit up. I had some concerns initially about the pairing of pattern and yarn, but once I’d started knitting the first sock, I kind of loved the way the yarn was flashing. This is not a pattern that’s going to break up pooling or flashing in yarn, but it is a quick and fairly easy-to-memorize pattern.

My one “complaint” is that the yarn is on the lighter side of fingering weights, but I think this pattern might really stand out a bit more in a slightly thicker yarn. The twisted ribbing feels a little bit flimsy, but they’re really comfy and surprisingly warm, for a pair of socks with a ton of yarn overs.

When I first started knitting, I never thought I would knit socks. I figured that since I live in Florida and kind of hate wearing shoes anyway, socks would be of no benefit to me. And then I saw how pretty sock yarn can be. Since finishing these, the only projects I’ve made headway on are the second of my Alice Cullen socks and a pair of Hedera socks. I blame the sock yarn.

I think they are so beautiful. I tried to cast on for these last night, but I choose my yarn poorly & they were way big & stretched out the pattern. Now I need to find something else to do with Panda Silk :/

      Thanks!

I haven’t used Panda Silk, but maybe you could still make socks on smaller needles? I hope it works out!

  2. […] love Cookie A’s socks. I knit Thelonius earlier this year, and Monkey, Pomatomus, Sunshine, Hedera, and BFF in the past, so it’s really no surprise that there was another […]
