Sunny days are here, for now

I believe that, if it doesn’t rain between now and the nighttime, we will have gone 48 hours without any rain whatsoever. Apparently, I’m feeling inspired by all the sunshine.

Is it silly to want to buy these buttons and then find the perfect matching yellow yarn to knit a cute summery cardigan? Because that’s what I want to do. I want to orchestrate a piece of clothing around three sunshiney buttons. This feels a little silly.

This happy, sunny cardigan totally reminds me of Paddington Bear. Even though it’s the wrong color. I can’t explain it to you, the moment I saw the cardigan, I immediately thought of Paddington. Edit: The pattern is Potter by Norah Gaughan, as part of the new Berroco collection.

Sunshine socks

Happy yellow (okay, almost traffic-cone orange) socks! The Sock Innovation group on Ravelry is having a knit-along every month, where two patterns are up for grabs. One pattern comes from Cookie A’s new book (Sock Innovation) and the other pattern is a Cookie pattern that is not in the book.

Sunshine socks

This month, the sock patterns are Sunshine and Nebula. I’m obviously knitting the Sunshine pattern, in Koigu KPM. The colorway is really a bit more muted than it came out in these shots, but it sort of does reach into the traffic cone realm. Just a bit more matte.

Handspun

I’m making yarn! This is spun from some fiber that a Ravelry friend sent me, and I think the base is called Falkland 58’s? Not sure, and that doesn’t really mean anything to me at the moment anyway. But I’m having fun. I still have a little bit more of this fiber to spin and then I’ll have to figure out what to do with it.

February Lady Sweater

Ahh, progress. I’m plugging along on my February Lady Sweater. The lace pattern takes a little more concentration than the garter stitch yoke did, so it’s going a little bit slower. Or at least, it feels like it’s going a little bit slower. I’m not quite sure how much more I have left to knit on the body, as I need to measure the length of one of my favorite cardigans and see how long it is, and compare that to how much I’ve knit so far.

Staggering Monkey socks

And finally, a finished object!

Staggering Monkey socks

SpillyJane’s modifications to Cookie A’s Monkey pattern make for a fun, staggered look to the socks. And they are incredibly fast to knit! If I were to figure out the amount of time that I worked on them, it would probably take me less than a day and a half to knit an entire pair. The pattern is easy to memorize and just goes so quickly.

Staggering Monkey socks

Hopefully once I finish my Sunshine socks, I’ll be showing you some work in progress shots on a few sock designs I have up my sleeve. That is, if they translate from the fabulous idea I have in my head to an actually fabulous knitted garment. There’s the rub, as always.

  1. I LOVE the “Paddington” cardigan! It looks so familiar- what’s the pattern?

It’s Potter by Norah Gaughan (I should probably put that information in the actual post, duh). It’s so bright and cheery! 😀

  2. I’m totally not a yellow wearer, but I love that cardi too. And I totally hear you on the Paddington thing, once you said it, it’s all I could think about!

Your spindle spinning is far superior to mine. I was never able to get the hang of it, really, but now I’m inspired to give it a try again, just for fun. And if you ever want to play with a wheel let me know. I’d be happy to bring mine along and get you addicted. 🙂

I’m thinking that if I knit that cardi in a blue shade and find a nice yellow hat, I could totally pull of Paddington Bear for Halloween at some point. 🙂

I’m sad that I won’t get to play at spinning with you. 🙁 You’ll have to come visit, they have tons of spinning type stuff out in Colorado. 🙂

  3. The socks look great as does the sweater in the works. I really concur with the Potter jacket. Very cute. I always look forward to the new Nora side shows the I get in the mail through Borroco.

      Thank you so much!

I keep thinking about that cardigan and I know I’m going to have to find yarn for it soon. I like a lot of the ideas that Norah incorporates into her designs, but I really worry about the way that they would look on me. Most of them are super loose and flowy, and while it can work, I tend to prefer a little more tailoring.

  4. […] love Cookie A’s socks. I knit Thelonius earlier this year, and Monkey, Pomatomus, Sunshine, Hedera, and BFF in the past, so it’s really no surprise that there was […]
