I can explain

It’s been pretty quiet around here lately, and I really, truly can explain. It’s not that I haven’t been knitting—I have, though not as much as I would like. But about two weeks ago I accepted a new job in a very different state and had to pack up my entire life and move to Colorado and start work at a fabulous place you may have heard of, called Interweave Press.

Yep, I pretty much managed to land my dream job, combining my love for knitting and the devious enjoyment I get from playing with words and writing in red ink. Today was my second day, and while it has been a little overwhelming adjusting to a completely different speed and mindset, in a way, I’m absolutely thrilled to have joined the team and am really excited to be working on a wide variety of projects related to Interweave Knits, KnitScene, and Interweave Crochet.

The other great thing about moving out here for this job is that I will finally be able to wear more hand-knitted garments. Those 10 scarves that I knit while living in Florida? I can wear them more than once in a year! Sweaters totally make sense for the Colorado climate, whereas I could never justify them in Florida. Socks are probably mandatory at certain parts of the year, but kind of unnecessary in Florida.

I did manage to get some knitting done in the midst of packing and driving, but I don’t yet have any pictures. My Sunshine socks are in a time-out right now, not because of anything that they did or that I did, but because I don’t have enough yarn. I ran out of yarn on the first sock about half-way through the toe decreases. I need maybe 4 yards to finish the pair. Okay, time-out may be partly their fault. I need to peruse Ravelry and see if anyone has scraps in the color that I’m using, but I’m really so peeved about the yarn shortage that I can’t even be bothered to try and fix it right now. For the record, the Koigu that I’m using would likely have been enough to get a full pair of socks, but the longish leg, numerous cable repeats, and my long feet have combined to make it just short enough.

I’ve also done more work on my handspun socks, as well as the blanket squares for my mom, but all of that has fallen by the wayside in lieu of driving across the country, finding a new place to live (currently, I’m staying with lovely and generous friends of mine), and adjusting to a new job. Hopefully I’ll get back into the knitting groove soon!
