Train case!

Do you think that “train case” could come to take the place of “basket case” in our idioms? As in, how crazy would a woman have to be to think that a train case can help her organize her knitting projects?

Closed.

Hey, you never know. It could work.

I picked up this sweet vintage train case at a crafts show this weekend (there were crafts there, but there were also other little booths, many of which had vintage items). I brought it home and promptly thought “well, what am I going to do with this?” And then I realized that I could use it in place of the giant brown bag and a few small brown bags and put all of my WIPs in it. (See yesterday’s post on organization.)

It’s pretty roomy, and it’s holding the few WIPs I had stashed by my chair quite well, and hopefully this will help me keep on top of my number of WIPs. If they can’t fit in the case, I have to finish them. Right?

Look, I can dream.

And I figure, while I’m here, I’ll include a photo of my mom’s cardigan, in progress. This is sleeve number 2!

What sort of organizational tricks do you have to keep your knitting or crocheting “under control”?

Love it! Good choice on an organizational tool. πŸ™‚

I love those traveling cases… my mum had a blue one forever and I would love to find one someday in a pretty pink or deep red… perfect idea to use it for your WIPs… leaving it out next to your chair makes it appear as if you’re getting ready to leave on a trip to some exotic local or visit some friends you haven’t seen in a while (or yet)…

I’m also very enamored with vintage luggage—I had to be talked out of buying an old red Samsonite set (my wallet and it’s gaping maw did all the reasoning). I’m so tempted to take my case with me as carry-on luggage to Maryland next year!

Cute! I have such difficulty organizing. I want to tuck things away, but I also have a tendency to forget about them if I can’t see them, which lends itself to an epic waterfall of new projects started out of boredom.

Checking Ravelry helps to remind me what I have going, but I’m also trying little individual project bags, so that I can at least see the pile of bags and think hmm, maybe I should go through those.

Yes, thankfully I haven’t had the opportunity to wander around and go “why am I not knitting?!” Giving myself some deadlines is helpful in that respect. πŸ˜€

  4. That is a fantastic find! (runs off to see if she can find one of her very own somewhere…)

Thanks! I love shopping for vintage stuff, and vintage luggage holds a special place in my heart. I’m just glad I could find a way to rationalize it after the fact. πŸ˜€

  5. I keep nothing under control! Right now, my knitting supplies are split between two small drawers and my small plastic sewing kit. No more space until a project actually gets finished!

Oh, and maybe you didn’t recognize me? It’s turalu_21.

How are your slippers going, by the way? And I’m happy to see you blogging about bicycling now! That’s excellent. πŸ˜€

You have seen my WIP cubby. Also known as “The Pit of WIPs”. They are out of control right now, and I really need to pick an evening and put on some good TV and crank out a few FOs. Maybe someone should come to my house and watch Jonathan Creek with me while I do it. Do you know anyone that might want to do that? πŸ˜‰

What is this Jonathan Creek you speak of?
