Friday Finds

First Friday of 2012! Here’s another Friday Finds, but first, an announcement, which will get its own post tomorrow.

Instead of doing just a Larch KAL, we’re going to open it up to any Amy Christoffers design, including WIPs. More details on that tomorrow!

  • Blocking garment pieces can be stymieing, especially for garments that are knit in one piece. Ruth over at Rock and Purl has an incredibly detailed post showing how she blocked her recent Glacial pattern, a cardigan that’s knit in one piece to the arms.
  • Socks and shawls are awesome because they can both be knit with one skein of fingering weight yarn. Michelle Miller’s Nebulous One Skein Shawl ($6) is a beautiful, open shawl with a gorgeous edging, worked in 440 yards or less of fingering weight yarn.

  • The Subway Tiles Hat ($5 for the pattern, $20 for the ebook) by Breean Elyse Miller is a super cute two-color hat in a honeycomb-style pattern.

  • Deb Hoss’s Johanna ($6) has a simple texture with a faux belt that provides nice waist detailing.

  • Whip up a simple Fair Isle baby hat with PurlBee’s Little Fair Isle Hat (free). Worked in one main color with five contrasting colors, this would be an excellent pattern for stashbusters!

  • Feathers Down My Back (free) by Theresa Bandy was designed for a gradient-dyed yarn but is a stunner in a solid color as well.

  • Jared Flood’s recent Wool People 2 features some amazing designs by some of the industry’s most wonderful designers. At the top of my ogling list are Olga Buraya-Kefelian’s Trace ($6.50, pictured), Alexis Winslow’s Arrowhead Mittens ($6), Amy Christoffer’s Ash ($6.50), SpillyJane’s 34th & 8th ($6), and Nancy Bush’s Spruce Forest ($6.50).
