Friday Finds

fridayfinds

So this month is halfway over and it’s been crazy and it’s going to continue to be crazy and let’s all just agree that this sentence is going to count as the first sentence for the next five or six Friday Finds.

Now that that’s out of the way, Happy All-The-Candy-Is-On-Sale Day! Spend your pennies wisely, buckos. And whatever’s left over, maybe buy a pattern or some yarn to knit something lovely for yourself.

  • I’ve said it before and I’ll probably say it again, but I am convinced that Amy Christoffers can do no wrong, and her latest offering merely supports this theory. Love and Happiness ($5) is a cabled cowl pattern available in three different sizes, and her model is pretty darn adorable.

  • Lovely ($4.95) marks Melissa Kwan’s pattern debut! You may also know her as the brain and the beauty behind Miso Crafty Knits. Another cowl pattern, Lovely features stacked hearts and simple cables.

  • Avebury ($6) by Kirsten Kapur features a wide-ribbed body and beautiful open edging. I love how the edge pattern is also repeated in the body.

  • Anna Yeganov’s Slouchy Winter Hat (free) is pretty much exactly as advertised, though I would add in the descriptor’s “crochet,” “cute,” and “I really want one right now.”

  • A beautifully airy and open shawl, Pétales (free) by Corinne Ouillon is knit in a gorgeous blend of alpaca and silk for maximum drape.

  • Thao Nguyen’s Rainbow Twist (free) makes the most of a brightly variegated bulky yarn in a smooshy cabled cowl.

  • This pattern was published a few months ago but either I missed it or I had a brain lapse because I LOVE IT and want one right now. (I do say that a lot, it’s true.) Tuva ($4.99) by Kerin Dimeler-Laurence features a super pretty and fun starburst-y yoke pattern worked in a lofty wool mixed with just a bit of mohair and silk.

  • I’m digging the funky shape of Julia Biryukova’s Catwoman Hat (free). Worked flat but with brioche-style ribs, this is a great pattern for the beginner knitter who’s got the basics down but is maybe working up to circular knitting.

  • On the flip side, My Favorite Things Scarf (free) originally by Jill McGee is perfect for the more intermediate knitter looking to bust some serious stash while also making a one-of-a-kind personalized project (and maybe someone who’s interested in diving in to chart drawing). This is a basic “recipe-style” pattern that you can customize by borrowing other knitter’s charts or making your own, worked in the round in stranded colorwork. I think I need to go hunt down some LEGO charts.

  • Felicia Lo’s Rushing Tide Shawl (CAD$6) is a semi-circular shawl worked in Felicia’s divine Sweet Georgia CashLuxe Fine (I have got to get my hands on some of this yarn) with a simple zig zag lace repeat.

Happy weekend knitting, everyone!
