Throwback Thursday in Knits: Botany College Hand Knits

Just in time to miss all of the back to school malarkey, I’m taking a look at this booklet from Botany Yarns (here’s an interesting write-up and brief history on Botany Yarns).

We’ve got an introduction on the “Smart Girl’s Guide to Hand Knits.” Absolutely nothing implied there. And also some quick reference material, including sizing information (they do have a few patterns that go up to a 44″ chest, but they are unisex and I’m sure the larger sizes are “intended” for the men).

The patterns are generally quite cute, though the models and the scenes are hilarious.

And this is how I picture Allyson Dykhuizen at any sporting event.

If this wasn’t so shapeless, I’d be all over this…cape? Jacket? Thing?

I am 100% on board with this, probably because it reminds me of the Brewster Pullover by Alexis Winslow, which I already have yarn to knit.

Honey, this is not how we put on make up.

Cute, basic waffle-stitch sweaters for the happy couple!

The vertical stitching on this jacket is actually really cool.

I love this, but not in this heavy yarn.

Not only can you knit this plaid sweater, but you can also knit the leggings.

For SCIENCE!

Because who doesn’t need a knitted dickey?

Aaaah college romance.

Just be sure to use the needles that you can’t set on fire.

I’m thinking I need a knitted dickie to wear under my funky t-shirts. And some sleeves, I need to knit sleeves to wear with my tees.

I can’t wait to see you rocking those designs!

Ha! It actually says non-INflammable, so maybe they want you to use the kind that could spontaneously combust at any moment…? 😛

“Flammable” and “inflammable” mean the same thing—one of those crazy things about the English language. So yeah, these needles are meant to not catch on fire.

Though I like the idea of spontaneously combusting needles—add an element of danger to knitting!

  3. HOLY CRAP is that Allyson?! Is she a time traveller?! Love the vertical-striped jacket. Might need to try that technique in the future. Very cute. I’m also really into that chevron sweater. Of course I am!

I figured you would probably be all over this. 😀 And I had to do a double-take when I saw that model the first time! We’ve found Allyson’s doppelganger.
