From Folly Cove: A Review and GIVEAWAY

THE GIVEAWAY IS CLOSED NOW but be sure to pick up From Folly Cove for 10% off on Ravelry! Discount code is FFC10.

Longtime readers will know what a fan I am of Julia Farwell-Clay’s designs. My Hiro and Plum Rondo are two of my most worn sweaters, and Julia’s entire body of work is full of incredibly wearable and fun to knit designs.

When Julia approached me about being on the blog tour for her book, From Folly Cove, I was over the moon. The idea of a whole collection from Julia’s wonderful brain was so exciting! And after seeing the finished results, I’m even more excited to dive into knitting the projects.

I think my absolute favorite knitting pattern from this book is the Lanesville Pullover. The combination of slipped stitches and stripes to form the adorably retro waist detailing is just genius.

I also love the gentle pattern sloping of the Cape Ann Stole and the awesome swingy-ness of the Burton Hills Jacket. AND I love reading about the inspiration behind each of the pieces. Julia’s done a massive amount of research into the Folly Cove Designers group of the mid-twentieth century, and transformed their works into beautiful pieces of knitted art.

As part of the blog tour, I’m giving away one copy of the Hetty’s Garden Coat pattern to one lucky winner. This beautiful cardigan features relief detail on the back, slash pockets, and a flattering silhouette.

To enter to win the copy of Hetty’s Garden Coat, simply leave a comment below telling me which pattern in From Folly Cove you’d most like to knit. You have until Monday, February 2, at noon MST, and I’ll announce the winner in next week’s Last Week on the Web. And if you just have to have them all, use the code FFC10 to save 10% on the purchase of the book via Ravelry.

Head over to Susan B Anderson’s blog tomorrow for another chance to win a pattern, and be sure to visit the Classic Elite blog at the end of the week for the chance to win enough yarn to knit the project of your choice from the book!

I can’t decide between the cowl and the garden coat. I love the butterfly motif of the cowl but the pattern on the back of the coat reminds me of the sort of plant illustrations my mom loves (and hence reminds me of my mom 🙂 )

My favorite so far has been “Natti” because of a particular association I have with the name, but now I also like “Hetty’s Garden.”

I absolutely love Hetty’s Garden Coat and the Annisquam Beret. Julia never, ever fails us with great patterns with fantastic DETAILS. And we all know that the details are what make each handknit special. Love this collection!

I feel called to knit the Cape Ann Stole – being a resident of the namesake area and all. That said, Hetti’s Garden Coat is my kind of sweater. Great length, super silhouette, and pockets!

I love the Hetty’s Garden Coat, but also the Lanesville Pullover. That would be a hard choice to make. Maybe both?

  12. I’m already mentally adjusting the shaping on the Lanesville to my (higher) narrow bit. That would be an all season piece for me.

The Natti Turtleneck looks legit like the coziest thing known to womankind. Drop-sleeves? Pockets? Girl, please, I need that.

Woah, it’s so hard to choose! I love the classic, vintagey feel of all the pieces. But I think I’d cast on the Burton Hills jacket first, but the flower designs at the bottom of Hetty’s Garden Coat are calling to me, too, so…
