Things we are not discussing

Bandelier sock

1. We are not discussing how many times it took me to knit and then re-knit the toe of this sock.

2. We are not discussing the numerous modifications I made and how I didn’t write any of them down so I can absolutely repeat them on the second sock. (Please note, the modifications are not due to any problems with the pattern, but problems with me using the wrong weight of yarn and then trying to fix the resulting “errors” on the fly.)

3. We are not discussing the second sock, primarily because I have no idea when I’ll have a chance to start on it.

4. We are not discussing that it doesn’t really matter when I finish the second sock, because temperatures are starting to rise and there will be no need for thick, colorwork socks for the next seven months or so.

5. We’re not discussing how it would probably be a Good Idea for me to re-knit the heel of this sock to make it a little deeper.

6. We are most certainly not discussing this.

Feel free to discuss just about anything else in the comments. If you need some guidance, how about discussing Elinor Brown’s sock design contest? That’s pretty spiffy.

  1. Yay! Thanks for the plug, Amy!! I’m glad you like the idea. I am way too excited about it! I hope people will like it. Mail days at my house are pretty outstanding these days – until I remember that I don’t get to keep any of the loot!

Things not to discuss indeed! Good luck with that second one! You should definitely make a second because the first one is beautiful.

It’s always a sad day when things arrive via mail and you realize you can’t keep them. I have that reaction quite frequently at work. Sad panda!

Thank you so much! And I can’t wait to see what sort of talents arise from your contest!

I agree with Elinor. That sock is a beaut, and ought to have a mate. But looking at that last picture — hello, I am NOT discussing it, haha — I can understand why that might take a bit of time. πŸ™‚

      Thank you thank you!

Last night, one of the lovely knitters in my knitting group volunteered to start weaving in ends, so it’s about halfway done now. I feel much better about it. πŸ˜€

  3. Are we allowed to discuss how awesome the first one looks? Because it’s a whole lot of awesome!

    • threadpanda threadpanda

Yes I suppose that is allowed. πŸ˜€

  4. It is a LOVELY single sock. Your talent amazes me. But yeah, there’s no way I’d be casting on that mate anytime soon.

Have you considered just spit-felting the loose ends together in lieu of weaving in for hours? only kidding… ^_^

      Thank you! πŸ˜‰

Yeah, I’m going to give spit-splicing a try on the second sock. I wanted to do it on this first one but was afraid of misjudging the amount of yarn I’d be using. I talked it out with another knitter last night and I think I’ve got it figured out.

Wow! All the not-to-be-discussed topics aside, the sock is gorgeous.

      Thanks Ivy!

  6. OMG that sock is gorgeous. I’d just frame it and hang it on the wall – forget the second sock.

haha that may be what ends up happening with these socks. πŸ˜€
