Strange Bird Shawl, revealed

A couple of weeks ago I showed you a sneak peek of a project that I’d finished for a swap partner. I just found out that my swap partner received her package, so now I can talk about it!

The pattern was Strange Bird by Ashley Knowlton, and I really loved knitting it. The way the different stitch patterns flowed together and then into the edging was just lovely.

I used a little less than 90% of a skein of Brown Sheep’s Wildfoote yarn, in an unnamed blue color (unnamed because the labels don’t have any names or numbers on them, so I have no idea what color it is). It blocked out so nicely, and bonus points, I was able to use the blocking wires and didn’t have to pin out every. Single. Point. (Yes, Haruni, I’m still a bit bitter.)

The only thing I would change is to figure out some way to make the shawl a little bit bigger. It’s a smidgen on the small side, but still works perfect for a sweet kerchief under a coat (not that I tried this out, or anything… I just have a good imagination).

Pro tip: If you’re going to take photos on a cloudy day, using your 50 mm f/1.8 lens is a good idea for getting detail shots. Not such a good idea for taking a full-project shot, because it’s kind of hard to put enough distance between you and the project. So then, don’t be a lazy bum and only take a full shot with your phone.

It loses some of the magic, doesn’t it? Just pretend that didn’t happen.

It’s super pretty and different than a lot of shawl patterns out there. Love the color!

      Thank you! 😀

  2. That is beautiful! So dainty. I’m a shawl, not kerchief person also, so I like my neck coverings nice and big. This is very pretty, though, so I might make an exception!

I’m the same way! I may try to tweak this, when I make it for myself, to include a third repeat on each side.

  3. That is beautiful! That blue looks incredible.

thank you! I loved this blue when I saw it at a Brown Sheep booth at a knitter’s fair a couple of years ago. Welcome to the blog! 😀

  4. […] will zip right along, as there’s a couple of non-sock projects I want to knit soon. I also knit a small shawlette for a swap partner. And I even almost finished a Destroyed Cowl (Rav link), but February is […]
