Month in review: March

March turned out to be another doozy of a month, and quite frankly, April’s not looking any better. Constant busy-ness isn’t the worst thing in the world, but this panda would like to be able to take some down time!

I did manage to meet my goal of knitting socks for March, as I posted about yesterday. I have to say, I’m a little bit over this goal. I feel like all I do now is knit socks, which isn’t all I do, obviously. I knit my cowl earlier this month, and I’m almost finished with a baby jacket (though I may have to omit the hood, as I don’t know if I’ll have enough yarn for it).

Even though I’m frustrated with this sock-knitting goal, I do plan on knitting socks in April, as I’ll be on the road a little bit and socks are great portable projects. Next month’s socks, perfect for April, are the Marigold Socks by Pamela Wynne. I’ve decided to use my Lorna’s Laces Shepherd Sock in the “Vera” colorway for these socks. Expect lots of pictures of socks + cat.

My other goal of not buying yarn is still going swimmingly! I did bring in some yarn this month—a skein of Cascade 220 Superwash that was given to me in a swap, a skein of Fresh from the Cauldron silver sock that I won in an odd twist of random number generator luck (actually won it as a reward for finishing my cowl by the March 17 deadline in a knit-along), and a skein of Asylum for Wayward Yarns dinger as a reward for baking up a storm in February (it was a Facebook group bake-along contest). And I still haven’t had a chance to photograph any of them, phooey. But not one cent was paid for any of those, so I’m doing good there.

If I ditch my sock goal, it’s going to morph into a “knit x amount of yardage in a month” goal. Because while I didn’t buy any yarn, I did bring in over 1,000 yards, and I’ve only knit about 900, maybe 925, this month. (I joined a Ravelry group that’s doing monthly yarn diets and tracking yardage out, so it’s helping me track by the yard.)

So, how was your March? Did you accomplish things you wanted to? Try anything new?

  1. Most of my knitting/fiber goals for March — totally dashed. Work consumed what seemed like every waking moment. And what wasn’t work, was single parenting or coping with at least one sick kid.

I knit and un-knit the same three rows of a sweater and that was it. Didn’t touch my spinning wheel. I pet some beautiful yarn I made in February a few times.

However, I did make substantial goals in establishing permanent fiber supply by winning sheep, and begining to prepare for their arrival in April — so that’s something.

Just a few more days of horrible deadline pressure before it morphs into less horrible, extended deadline pressure at work and maybe more time to knit.

I’m sorry most of March was a bummer for you, but I’m so excited to hear about your sheep! Your posts so far have been absolutely fascinating, I can’t wait to see what happens when they arrive!
