Friday Finds

Today is a pretty big day! It’s the last Friday in July, which means that there’s only about four more months left in the year! It’s also the Opening Ceremonies of the Olympic Games in London and I plan on watching as much as I can via my computer over the next couple of weeks. That’s prime knitting time!

  • I think my colorwork scarf is rubbing off on me, because I’m constantly daydreaming of more colorwork projects, including these Nanny Mittens (€4.50) by Pirita Hiltunen. There’s a touch of the Mary Poppins whimsicality to these adorable mittens—I can just imagine pairing them with the Pluie Cardigan from the new Interweave Knits Fall.

  • Double knit or worked in the round, the Seahorses Scarf (£2.99) by Violet Green is a psychedelic colorwork scarf with little repeating seahorses. So cute!

  • The Campfire Shawl (free) from Pom Pom magazine is a simple shawl worked in a DK-weight yarn for a quick gratification project.

  • Catch ($5) by Christina Loman is a lovely tank with beaded embellishment at the neck and side hips. Personally, I would probably leave off the beads and just work the simple lace pattern, but the beads are a nice touch.

  • Sur la Quais (free) is a semi-circular shawl worked in a lace pattern reminiscent of wrought iron work. I find shawls to be wonderful accessories when the weather starts to turn cooler, as you can wear them in a variety of ways depending on your comfort level.
