Friday Finds

Do any of you watch the Canadian show Lost Girl? I’ve become addicted to it. It’s a delightful twist on the supernatural stories that have invaded television programming pretty much since Buffy the Vampire Slayer first aired, focusing on the Fae lores and not so much vampires or werewolves (there are both vampires and werewolves, but they’re not the focal points, is what I’m saying). Anyway, I dig it a lot a lot, and it makes for fantastic knitting TV.

Soooo… yeah.

  • You know I’m going to immediately be intrigued by a pattern called Lady Eowyn ($6), and Melanie Gibbons’s fingerless mitts are the perfect representation of a daughter of Rohan. Braided cables are framed by a honeycomb stitch on either side.

  • Clearly a lot of these patterns were released near Valentine’s Day and I’m only just now getting around to writing about them, but this way you can knit Devon Clement’s LoveSocks (free) for next year’s Valentine’s, if that sort of thing appeals to you. Me, I just like clever and cute intarsia placed on sock heels.

  • Lisa Mutch is back with a hat and mitts set, called Bloc ($4). Lisa plays with Stockinette and reverse Stockinette in a monochromatic scheme to create a sample but sassy accessories set.

  • Beth Jones’s Caelia Cabled Jumper (£4) is a long fitted tunic with a Celtic knot cable running up the middle, flanked by rope twists. Pick your favorite cozy yarn and get to it.

  • Gingko Crescent (free) by Jade Keaney is a wonderful introduction to crescent shawls if you’re a little unsure of how they work. A Stockinette body and simple, gingko-inspired lace pattern at the bottom makes for fast knitting.

  • Margaux Hufnagel’s Charlie Pullover ($6) is a beautiful lace sweater knit from the bottom up with a combination of lace patterns in the delicious Quince and Co Osprey.

  • The colorwork pattern of Becca Brody’s Hearts and Birds Hats ($5) looks just a bit pixelated to me, which makes me love it oh so much—one way to this girl’s heart is to update traditional motifs with modern twists.

  • I’m not entirely sure what’s happening in Jennifer Pattison’s Tilt and Twist Socks (free) but I love it.

  • Fragrance (free) by Corinne Ouillon features a simple eyelet body transitioning almost seamlessly into more structured panels at the bottom.

  • Who doesn’t want more birds and hearts on hats? Lovebird Beanie Hat (free) by Tanya Blackiston is for those of us who like birds and hearts on everything. TAKE THAT PORTLANDIA.
