Sevilla Sweater in Berroco Mykonos Stonewash

About two years ago, I started knitting the Sevilla sweater for my mom. In my quest to clear out works-in-progress, this was a project I wanted to finish this year.

The Sevilla Sweater Knitting Pattern

As fate would have it, this is not the first time I’ve knit this sweater. My Weir sweater is basically the same pattern, but in a different yarn. But I started knitting Sevilla first.

The pattern is knit in pieces, beginning with the deep ribbed hem of the back. The front features a flattering V-neck shape, and the sleeves are worked in some way. Knitting in pieces and seaming is crucial for this particular yarn, Berroco Mykonos (discontinued).

When You “Have” to Seam

I really don’t know what someone was thinking when they created this yarn. It’s linen and a little bit of cotton–nice, summery, natural fibers–wrapped with nylon. Thereby basically negating the natural fiber aspect of it. It’s wily as all get out–you can’t wind it on a ball winder (too slippery), you have to essentially hand sew the ends in place, and it will absolutely slip off the needles any chance it gets.

I will say, though, that it does stay cool in warmer months. Which is why I went ahead and used it for this sweater for my mom, rather than trying to sub in another yarn. Even having it in my lap during summer wasn’t horrible. My mom lives in Florida, and I thought this pattern plus this yarn would make a nice sweater for the cooler months.

Rushing Things

When I decided I would finish the sweater and gift it to my mom for Christmas this year, I neglected to reason with myself about actually finishing until it was pretty much deadline time. I did mail it, and I washed it, and I’m 99% sure it was totally dry when I wrapped it up and mailed it. But that means that I did not remember to get any photos of it.

I did ask my mom for a photo, and she complied. Here’s my mom modeling her Sevilla (and my dad modeling his Christmas gift, a Finlayson Pullover). Side note: the lovely Judith is the model for the sweater that’s in the featured image. I grabbed it from the Berroco website because you can’t really tell a whole lot about this sweater from the photo below.
