What to do, what to do?

I have finished Chrysta’s Wedding Shawl. Sorry, no pictures until after the wedding, as I want Chrysta herself to see the full, finished product before anyone else, but I’m excited to have finished it. More details about the shawl when I post the final pictures.

Finishing the shawl was like being released from a fluffy, yarn-filled, happy prison. I would go to work, go home, and then spend about 2 hours a night working on the shawl. Those two hours would get me through one repeat of the pattern and by the time I was done with that, I had no brain or finger power left to even consider working on something else. This was the only project that I worked on for about three weeks and I don’t usually have that kind of knitting monogamy willpower.

When the end started to show itself, I started toying with other little projects. Like the crocheted blanket squares for my mom’s blanket. Most recently I’ve been working on this scarf.

Kate's Scarf

It’s a simple scarf that a friend commissioned from me. It’s 80% of the way finished in that photo, just have to do one more color repeat, weave in the ends, block it, and bang! Done.

(By the way, did you all know that crochet is incredibly fast? Like… amazingly fast. I’m still wrapping my brain around this.)

And since I’ve been “released,” so to speak, I’ve picked up the second of my Fluke socks. I knit the heel flap yesterday and turned the heel and picked up the gusset stitches this afternoon (ah, lunch breaks). I imagine that I’ll have finished this pair by the end of the weekend. Add to that, I was recently commissioned to knit another pair of baby booties, but those are fast and I could, again, possibly finish them this weekend. (I don’t usually do a lot of anything on the weekends, if you haven’t figured that out yet.)

And then… what do I do? I don’t really have any more things that I have to knit right now. There’s one sock pattern that I have to test knit, but I’ve been told repeatedly that it’s not a rush, and I feel like taking advantage of that. But now I have an incredible realm of possibilities wide open to me and I’m a bit overwhelmed.

I could work on something on the smaller side. I do need a traveling project for my little jaunt to Colorado next week. I was thinking of knitting the Staggering Monkeys (all links lead to Ravelry) or Uzume or maybe Leyburn or heaven forbid actually working on a sock pattern design that I’ve had in my head for months now. I could also cast on a larger, non-traveling project for my evenings at home, like a Whisper Cardigan or February Lady Sweater or Clapotis or Swallowtail Shawl. I won’t even think about the crochet projects in my queue.

I could knit any of those! Or go crazy and start on all of them at once! Or go home and curl up in the fetal position until the dizziness induced by so many options subsides. So many choices. How do people do anything?!
