Works-in-Progress Parade, April 2022

So far, almost 4 months into 2022, I have only cast on one whole project. (As long as we agree that casting on a second socks is not starting a new project, technically speaking.) Yet I’ve been knitting and finishing projects, more than I expected to. I’m calling this inadvertent focus on finishing projects my Works-In-Progress Parade.

So many, many options

This started when, in an attempt to organize my yarn bins and do my very best to moth-proof all my yarn (I hate those little blighters), I realized I have a ton of partial projects. At least sixteen in various states of progress. With the exception of the angry crocheted uterus that I forgot to photograph before sending it off it its recipient, all the projects I’ve finished this year to this point were cast on prior to 2022. The projects I’m currently working on fall into that category too. So let’s do a little round-up for accounting sake.

Tiled Steps Socks

I mentioned in my crafting goals that I found a completed toe-up cast-on in a project bag, and after counting stitches and peeking at a few toe-up sock patterns in my library, I decided they would be come the Tiled Steps Socks by Melissa Lemmons. I have absolutely no recollection of starting this toe. I did purchase the pattern in 2013 so I’m betting I started knitting that toe sometime around then.

I have finished the first sock and started on the second–after a moment of “holy crap, how do you cast on a toe?” It was early and I hadn’t yet had a full cup of coffee. We got there in the end.

Tourlaville Shawl

I’ve been working on this shawl during little breaks at work to re-set my brain and make slow but steady progress. I know I started this shawl pattern by Zsuzsa Kiss back in 2015, and I think it was one of my first brioche projects.

I’m going to go off the rails a little bit on this, because it looks like the shawl, as written, only uses about half the yarn and is only 18″ deep and that doesn’t make a lot of sense to me. Maybe I will just keep working in pattern until I use up more yarn. But I’m also playing around with the idea of switching up the pattern a bit.

Issey Scarf

I absolutely love Olga Buraya-Kefelian’s designs. I absolutely do not know why I thought I wanted to knit a scarf. Even the Issey Scarf. It’s gorgeous. It’s just taking so long.

I started this back in 2015 and I have made progress on it this year. It is a nice, fairly mindless project, but it also doesn’t totally grab my brain when I need something a bit more intricate. I do plan on finishing it this year though, so we’re going to take the slow and steady wins the race approach.

Strut Socks

I finished the first of my Strut Socks by Maggie Menzel in February, after having to do some minor surgery on it. You can read about it in this Instagram post. I haven’t started the second one yet. Once I finish the second Tiled Steps socks, I’ll likely cast-on for that second socks.

Future Parade Plans

I am going to knit a Felix Pullover by Amy Christoffers as part of Allyson Dykhuizen’s Bang Out a Felix KAL in the Laura Allyson Party That starts May 3, and then that will be a new addition to the parade line up.

Other projects waiting in the wings:

  • Solkatla Sweater by G. Dagbjört Guðmundsdóttir (have one sleeve started)
  • Sing Winter by Alicia Plummer (have one cuff started)
  • Nesting Wrap by Bristol Ivy (cast on at Christmas break, have maybe 4 rows)
  • Giant Shell Stitch Beach Tote by Joanne Loh (probably about half way finished, crochet just takes more brain power than I anticipate)
  • Davallia by Isa Catepillan (literally almost done, just needs me to concentrate for some amount of time on fringe)

All of this is just the yarn projects I want to tackle–there’s quite the backlog of sewing projects I want to finish too! Stay tuned to see how any of this goes.
