Making a Habit of Sporadic Blogging

I seem to be making a habit of getting started with blogging and then letting it fall by the wayside. And you know what?

It’s okay.

I don’t think many of my readers are eagerly awaiting everything I have to say. That’s okay too! Blogging has always been a fun outlet for me, even when (especially when) real life was less enjoyable. So it’s something I can do, but not something I have to do.

Making a Habit of Weekly Posting

Lately, blogging has been something that I’ve been wanting to do. Work has been so busy that I haven’t had the mental energy to string words together. But I’m looking for ways to help replenish my creative cup in spite of work (while also showing myself grace when I just can’t).

I’ve found that the easiest way to make sure I do something is to create a fixed but flexible habit. I identify something I want to do and come up with a time frame that still has some flexibility.

The new plan is to post at least once a week, ideally on Mondays. That way I have the weekend to reflect on what I want to share and fine tune it. And just to post whatever I want to talk about, so this could get very interesting (or very boring).

So, What Have I Been Up To?

I have been knitting a lot and feeling inspired which has been a delightful change from the past few years, when it was something I did out of habit and not always out of joy.

I finished my Felix Pullover during the Bang out a Felix KAL right as the weather got entirely too hot to wear it. It also is too hot for small fuzzy space heaters (aka, cats) to be constantly attached to me. But someone didn’t get the memo.

I’m nearly finished with a Summer Sorrel tee that I decided to knit using three shades of Hedgehog Fibers Twist Sock that I picked up on Local Yarn Store Day. I have basically left all semblance of the pattern behind at this point, after receiving some guidance from Allyson Dykhuizen during her Sorrel knitting class. If you have an opportunity to take a class with Allyson, I highly recommend it!

And I became obsessed with Yamagara’s Dawa top (pattern is currently only available on Ravelry). So much so that I immediately purchased some yarn for it–amirisu’s Parade, which is lovely wool, cotton, silk, and linen blend.

But I had to free up some knitting needles before I could start it, so I’ve gotten this far now.

There are some other projects in the works, and I’m hoping to find some more sewing mojo soon, but mostly it’s been all about the knitting lately!

  1. Here’s to sporadic blogging!! I have blogged more this year than I have since 2014… and it’s been all over the place. But it’s more! Small steps. And I LOVE that gold linen and can’t wait to see that one knit up…

Maybe blogging is making a bit of a comeback? Who knows. But I am here for all over the place blog posts!
